Reimagining Buena Vista’s West Main Gateway
Help Shape a Future Vision of West Main Street
West Main Street is more than a road — it’s the gateway into Buena Vista. It’s where visitors arrive from Cottonwood Pass, where neighbors walk their dogs, where kids bike, and where daily life moves between downtown, neighborhoods, and Highway 24.
The Town is collaborating with CU Denver MURP student Josh Mabis on a Capstone project to create a community-driven vision for West Main Street. This is an exploratory visioning effort, and the feedback collected will help guide the Transportation Master Plan launching later this year.
This is an exciting project to reimagine this corridor, and we need your voice!
What’s the Big Picture?
Through this corridor vision project, we’ll explore how West Main Street can:
- Feel like a true “welcome to town” moment
- Be safer for people walking, biking, and rolling
- Calm traffic as drivers enter residential areas
- Better connect West Main, Highway 24, and our historic downtown
- Reflect Buena Vista’s local character and small-town charm
This work will help guide future design ideas, from crosswalks and bike facilities to placemaking, landscaping, and potential mobility hubs.
But first, we need to understand what it feels like today.
Take the West Main Street Travel Survey
We’re asking community members to share their real experiences traveling along West Main Street, especially outside of a vehicle.
Your input will help us:
- Understand how people currently move along the corridor
Identify where things feel unsafe or uncomfortable
Learn what barriers prevent walking or biking
Prioritize improvements that would make the biggest difference
Whether you travel the corridor every day or only occasionally, your lived experience matters.
Who Should Participate?
Everyone.
You don’t need planning or transportation experience, just your perspective. We want to hear from:
Residents
Business owners
Students
Visitors
People who walk, bike, drive, or roll
Anyone with ideas or concerns
Some questions allow multiple selections, because we know transportation needs are complex and often involve more than one solution.
Why Now?
Our recently updated Comprehensive Plan highlights the community’s desire for a more connected, multimodal Main Street. As Buena Vista continues to grow, this is the right time to begin shaping a safer, more welcoming corridor.
The feedback collected now will help shape priorities for the Town’s Transportation Master Plan launching later this year.
Help us turn West Main into a corridor that works for everyone.
