Street Paving Overlay (2026)
Project Overview
The Street Paving & Overlay Program is a core Public Works function that funds ongoing paving, milling, rehabilitation, and overlay work on existing Town streets. Regular pavement maintenance extends roadway life, improves safety and accessibility for all users, and reduces long-term repair and reconstruction costs.
Why This Project Matters
Consistent investment in pavement maintenance protects prior infrastructure investments and prevents accelerated roadway deterioration. Deferred maintenance leads to higher costs over time and creates safety and accessibility challenges for drivers, cyclists, pedestrians, and people with mobility devices.
What Work Is Included
This program may include:
Asphalt street overlays and resurfacing
Street milling and rehabilitation
New street paving as needed
Pavement improvements supporting safe vehicle, bicycle, and pedestrian use
Coordination with drainage, striping, and ADA compliance where applicable
Schedule
This is a multi-year, ongoing program spanning FY2026 through FY2030. Projects are scheduled annually based on pavement condition, operational needs, coordination with other infrastructure projects, and available funding.
Budget & Funding
Total Program Cost (FY2026–FY2030): $1,850,000
Funded through the Street Fund.
Public Benefit
The Street Paving & Overlay Program helps maintain safe, reliable, and accessible streets for residents, businesses, and visitors. Regular pavement maintenance supports multimodal travel, improves ADA access, reduces long-term repair costs, and strengthens Buena Vista’s transportation system as the community grows.
