What will I be able to do in the new system?

    You'll be able to create and monitor the status of any of the following applications:

    • Development reviews (subdivisions, site plans, rezoning, etc)
    • Sign permits
    • Business licenses & renewals (including Short-term rental licenses)
    • Special event permits
    • Code enforcement complaints or cases
    • Town Building permit reviews*

    * As is currently the case, Town reviews all building permit applications to ensure compliance with zoning code. Town then passes the County application and fees on to the County Building Department for review against building codes. SmartGov will allow this to be more clear - Town building permit review will be separated from County building permit review. 

    What company is providing this service?

    The Town has selected a company called Brightly Software, and their product SmartGov. This product is used by over 5,000 other governments and jurisdictions to manage planning, zoning, building, permit, code enforcement, and licensing processes online.

    In addition to all these, Chaffee County itself is also in the process of implementing SmartGov! While BV and the County will maintain separate systems, the fact that we're both pursuing the same product will help create consistency for community members - whether you're seeking building permits or a land-use application in the County!

    What is the timeline for this effort?

    Check out the Lifecycle widget below to get a sense of where we are in the work, but we kicked-off this project in January, and are working diligently toward a public launch sometime in June. However, staff capacity as well as the capacity of SmartGov personnel will impact this timeline. 

    Will this make application fees more expensive?

    Town does not anticipate the implementation of SmartGov increasing application fees. Our application fees are calculated based on staff time in processing and monitoring applications. This time is not anticipated to increase at all, and eventually may decrease as a result of SmartGov.

    If you choose to pay online, the credit card processing fee of around 2.5% will be added to your base application fee. 

    Will I be able to pay online?

    Yes! That will be a major benefit of this implementation - the ability for you to pay using your checking/savings account or with a credit/debit card.
