Memorial Plaque: In Honor of Billy Cordova

The Plaque commemorating Billy Cordova to be displayed at his memorial park:

Billy Cordova was more than a firefighter — he was a friend, a mentor, and a leader to all who joined Chaffee County Fire.

Serving his community for over 34 years, Billy joined Chaffee Fire in 1989 and dedicated 14 years as a Battalion Chief. His commitment and excellence earned him multiple awards, including Firefighter and Officer of the Year.

Beyond the fire department, Billy served as a Reserve Deputy for the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office, Enforcement Officer for the Division of Wildlife, Volunteer for Chaffee Search and Rescue, and Board Director for Chaffee County Fire—all while being a father, raising a family, and running a business.

Billy was known for his willingness to help anyone in need, whether it was a stranger on the side of the highway or a fellow firefighter. He found joy in sharing stories at the station, often over a scoop of ice cream, bringing people together with his warmth and generosity.

His true calling was to be a first responder. He dedicated his life to serving others in many capacities, but the fire department remained his greatest passion. This park is a reflection of that dedication and a place to honor his legacy.

The Town of Buena Vista extends our heartfelt gratitude to the Cordova family for their generous support in bringing this park to life. Billy wore many hats in service to our community, and his legacy lives on through his family’s dedication and unwavering commitment to making this special place a reality.

This park stands as a tribute to Billy's unwavering dedication, his service, and the lasting impact he made on the Buena Vista community. His memory will continue to inspire those who walk these grounds and those who serve in his footsteps.
